Fundraiser makes splash at Lanspeary Park

Lanspeary Park Sunday was teeming with children shrieking in delight as they were sprayed with water guns or pushed down a hill in inflatable balls. The second annual Windsor Water Balloon Fight raised money this year for In Honour of the Ones We Love, a local charity that supports cancer patient care in the area.

The second annual Windsor Water Balloon Fight raised money this year for In Honour of the Ones We Love, a local charity that supports cancer patient care in the area. As the name suggests, there were water balloons, as well as obstacle courses and other fun games for children of all ages.

Organizer Omar Nizam said he and friend Joe Jraige came up with the idea of the fundraiser.

“It was just an idea to do something fun for the community.”

The first year was small, raising less than $1,000 for charity.

This year, Nizam said, he and Jraige partnered with In Honour of the Ones We Love, which brought on board corporate sponsors and more marketing expertise.

“We are definitely more organized this year,” said Nizam, who runs One Dream Media and Speaking Roses. “We say this is the second annual but last year was more of a trial run. This is our real start.”

“It’s a way to help the community.”
